Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall has caused a stir in Pittsburgh with comments that seem to attack those who celebrate the death of Osama Bin Laden.

Quoting from ESPN

The Pittsburgh Steelers running back on Monday tweeted: "What kind of person celebrates death? It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side..."

Mendenhall didn't hold back, even making a reference to the Sept. 11 attacks.

"We'll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style."

The Steelers distanced themselves from their running back, saying in a statement, "The entire Steelers organization is very proud of the job our military personnel have done and we can only hope this leads to our troops coming home soon."

Mendenhall has more than 13000 people following his Twitter account.

In my mind, we spend a lot of time paying attention to sports figures and Hollywood types on their opinions.  We are then outraged when they say things that don't match with our point of view.

What do you think about the statements?
