Doesn’t it seem like most celebrity marriages don’t stand a chance? The Centers for Disease Control reported a staggeringly low rate of divorce rates in 2010 in at least 44 states, but that doesn’t really matter if you’re a celebrity. The CDC might slacked on the statistics involving this sect of relationships, but these 10 high-profile splits don’t bode well for celebs’ odds.

1

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony

Seven years of marriage might seem like a wasted union but in Hollywood, it’s practically worthy of a silver anniversary. The two music icons were the on-again, off-again Hollywood couple throughout the 1990s before getting back together and making it official in 2004. The two called their split an “amicable conclusion,” although now it seems Anthony is having problems dealing with J. Lo’s boytoy Casper Smart.

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds

Not only did one of Hollywood’s cutest couples become two of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes, but the addition of Blake Lively to the situation also made it the cutest love triangle in Hollywood. Apparently, it got even more complicated when Johansson hooked up with Sean Penn and ruined her chances of ever getting back together with Reynolds. Is there such a thing as a love rectangle?

Jack White and Karen Elson

The end of this musical couple’s marriage may not have been the most notable, but it deserves a special mention for the way the couple celebrated it. The former White Stripes rocker and his ex-wife to be not only filed for divorce, but they threw a special “divorce party” in Nashville, TN. You can’t really get more amicable than that.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver

Of course, no breakup was more nasty and sinister than the former California governor and his former wife. The two seemed like the perfect political power couple until rumors turned into fact that Arnold fathered a love child with a housekeeper and kept the fruit of his infidelity under wraps for several years. This split terminated 25 years of marriage.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

This made-for-TV marriage didn’t last very long, even by Hollywood’s standards. The E! reality show star and NBA powerhouse got married in a highly televised ceremony for all the world to see, but their fairytale union quickly began to crumble just 72 days after the couple said “I do.” Although, both have denied getting married just for the sake of ratings.

Jesse James and Kat Von D

The other woman in Jesse James’ rock star love life that caused the breakup of his marriage to Sandra Bullock seemed destined to end with another trip down the aisle. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The two called off their engagement before they had a chance to get married and divorce, not once but twice. Kat later posted on Facebook that Jesse’s raging hormones and 19 other flings led to their split… certainly understandable.

Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter

The two stars of Showtime’s grisly drama ‘Dexter’ may have played brother and sister in front of the camera, but their divorce behind the lens made things a little awkward on the set, naturally. Even though Michael called his ex-wife “a dear friend” and called their working relationship professional, the least observant fan could tell the chemistry between the two seemed different after they signed the final papers.

Crystal Harris and Hugh Hefner

The Playboy founder may have gone through more girlfriends, fiances and wives than most Middle Eastern dictators, but his latest bride-to-be barely gave him the chance to walk behind the aisle. Crystal Harris was supposed to adorn the July cover of the long running men’s magazine as “Mrs. Crystal Hefner,” but the bride bolted after the cover went to press prompting a special sticker for the issue.

9

Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard

Fanboys didn’t know whether to rejoice or mourn along with the big and small screen’s latest “it” girl when Zooey Deschanel called it quits with her husband Ben Gibbard. Zooey’s people called the split with frontman for the emo rock band Death Cab for Cutie “mutual and amicable.”

10

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher

The age difference between these two stars made a lot of heads turn and eyebrows raise, but they managed to work through it for six long years until Moore filed for divorce last November. Rumors of Ashton’s infidelity seemed to be the chief cause of their breakup. They were confirmed after a woman in Southern California said she spent the night with him on the eve of the couple’s sixth wedding anniversary.
