George Strait Wins Entertainer of the Year at 2013 CMA Awards
George Strait, the King of Country, reigned supreme at the 2013 CMA Awards, nabbing the coveted Entertainer of the Year trophy. The legend, who is retiring from active touring next year, was truly surprised by the win, but we weren't. It's doubtful that any of the country superstars at the ceremony were shocked by his win, either.
'Good Morning America' host Robin Roberts presented Strait with the award, but before she did, she noted that she watched last year's ceremony from her sick bed, since she was stricken with a blood disease. She called country music "beautiful" and got a standing ovation for doing so. It was a true thrill for her to present this award to a country legend -- no, the country legend.
The King of Country had one helluva year, with his 2013 Cowboy Rides Away Tour selling out show after show. He notched his 60th No. 1 single of his career as he turned 61, as well.
"Never in a million years, thank you so much," Strait said upon taking the stage to accept. "My dad is having good conversations up there. This blows me away. I can't believe it."
Strait added that he was thrilled to be nominated again and was genuinely shocked to have won, since his competition was so stiff, with Luke Bryan, Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean also vying to pocket the EoTY award at the 2013 CMAs. Something tells us that all of those country stars were happy to lose to Strait.
