I grew up in a very small town in extreme Southern Idaho. Population was 117 at the time with lots of ranches and dairies.

When I first started my radio career at age 15, I had to drive about an hour to get to the station. My reward, an awesome career. However, when I first started I was made fun of a lot for the way I talked and my accent. In fact some people couldn't understand me because it was so deep. It took years and dedicated focus to conquer this. But did I fix everything?

My wife and I were going through Facebook and came across this article.

There's a list of phrases in this. Ironically, I have been using most of these in the wrong way all of my life.

Here are some examples:

  • "One in the same" is actually wrong. It's actually supposed to be "one and the same."
  • I guess when I get hungry, I don't have "hunger pains" I have "hunger pangs."
  • When you throw someone under the bus, they are not your "escape goat" they are actually your "scapegoat."

Why didn't someone tell me this years ago? I wonder how many people have been secretly laughing at me when I've said something stupid.

Have you been wrong, too?
