Kacey Musgraves Soars on Reinvented ‘Neon Moon’ With Brooks & Dunn [Listen]
Kacey Musgraves is featured on Brooks & Dunn's classic "Neon Moon" on their new Reboot album, and it's as pure as can be.
Musgraves takes lead vocals on this reinvented classic, with the duo providing light harmonies in the background. The newcomer — comparatively speaking — brings a hint of disco to her rendition while still honoring the traditional country elements of the beloved hit, pairing her originality with touching vocals that capture the song's heartache.
The arrangement is simple, yet mystical, transporting the listener into the story and emotion of the song as Musgraves poignantly sings "Now if you lose your one and only / There's always room here for the lonely / To watch your broken dreams / Dance in and out of the beams / Of a neon moon."
Why Did Brooks & Dunn Break Up In the First Place?
A beautiful steel guitar solo, matched with Ronnie Dunn's haunting voice in the background, adds another poetic element to the captivating recreation.
“She came in with such a different progressive twist and the song still stood up,” Dunn tells Billboard of Musgraves' vision.
This isn't the first time Musgraves has partnered with the legendary country duo on "Neon Moon," as she invited them to perform the song with her during her show at the Ryman Auditorium in March 2019.
"Neon Moon" is one of 12 tracks on Reboot, a project that elicits a variety of modern country artists collaborating with Brooks & Dunn's on some of their greatest hits including Luke Combs on "Brand New Man," "My Maria" featuring Thomas Rhett and Brett Young taking on "Ain't Nothing 'Bout You."
The duo of Dunn and Kix Brooks were recently announced as the newest inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame class of 2019.
