Martina McBride’s Fans Raise Over $25K for Cancer Research
It's no secret that the right song can inspire healing and action, and Martina McBride's recent ballad 'I'm Gonna Love You Through It' is a prime example. The powerful and emotional song -- which describes one woman's journey through breast cancer diagnosis and treatment -- inspired McBride's fans to raise over $25,000 for cancer research.
In October, members of the singer's fan club formed Team Martina and dedicated a grant for over $25,000 in the singer's name to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville through the T.J. Martell Foundation, according to the Sacramento Bee. The fundraising campaign was well-orchestrated; Team Martina even gave fans a little extra incentive to donate. The first 50 fans who donated $200 or more will be able to attend McBride's soundcheck prior to her concert in Morgantown, West Virginia on January 12, 2013.
During an appearance on 'The Today Show,' McBride spoke of how pleased she was with the team's efforts. "I've got a group called Team Martina which I'm really proud of, and they have a grant for T.J. Martell in my name!"
The video for 'I'm Gonna Love You Through It' features several cancer survivors, including 'Good Morning America''s Robin Roberts, news anchor Hoda Kotb and singer Sheryl Crow. The song cracked the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
