‘SNL’ Taps ‘Girls’ Creator Lena Dunham as Second March Host
'SNL' scored major points in announcing its first March host as Jim Parsons of 'The Big Bang Theory,' while the second host of the long-running sketch comedy series' post-Olympics run will similarly score new blood. 'Girls' creator and star Lena Dunham will make her 'SNL' debut in the March 8 installment, alongside what musical guest, you ask?
Dunham will make her first 'SNL' hosting appearance with fellow newbies The National, whose “Trouble Will Find Me” album garnered a 2014 Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album, and whose documentary 'Mistaken For Strangers' will hit theaters in the last week of March. Prior to Dunham's hosting debut, Parsons will host for his first time on the March 1 installment with musical guest Beck.
Considering that 'Girls' season 3 will enter its final run on March 9 (the third season's expansion to 12 episodes puts the finale in late March), it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine Lena Dunham poking a bit of fun at her oft-debated series, which previously became the target of one of Tina Fey's taped sketches at the beginning of the season. Apart from all the new blood, Dunham's March 8 installment will also see head writer Colin Jost still settling in to his new ‘Weekend Update’ gig opposite Cecily Strong, following Seth Meyers‘ departure from the program for ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers.’
Well, what do you think? Does Lena Dunham have the live comedy chops for 'SNL,' or does the March run have too many untested hosts? Tell us what you'd want to see from Dunham's March 8 'SNL' turn in the comments after you re-watch the latest 'Girls' parody!
