Summer is in the air and Softie's Ice Cream Shop is open. As I was cruising around the other night (well driving like the middle aged woman I am) I noticed that Softie's on the corner of Broadwater and 24th Street West is open.

In the first years of my life, I had a dairy allergy. Even having a teaspoon of milk would give me a three day ear infection. So I had my bowl of Cheerios with soy milk, and orange sherbet was the only option when the family stopped at an ice cream parlor.

My favorite Summer treat by far is homemade ice cream.  We always had it a couple times each summer.  Sometimes, if you got the first bowl you could taste the rock salt that crept into the lid.  I'm not sure if people even make it anymore because of the work involved but it was the best brain freeze I ever had...

One of the highlights of this year's Strawberry Festival in Downtown Billings will feature hot competition with a cold twist. Once or twice per week I stop by the gift shop on the first floor of the Crowne Plaza in downtown Billings because our studios are located here on the 23rd floor. I usually go for one reason... they carry Wilcoxson's fudge bars.

Ben & Jerry's has proven once again it is the king of ice cream, this time by introducing four new flavors each with a sweet gooey core.

Because I needed the exercise I decided to walk the 9 blocks from our studios here at the Crowne Plaza to Andy's Bar & Grill which was the site of yesterday's Alive After 5 put on by the Billings Downtown Association. I grabbed a beer and took in the Jaded Ladies who did a great set of cover tunes that included No Doubt's "Just a Girl"...

So I ate at my favorite BBQ place again today which is Dickey's on Montana Ave. Aside from the fantastic smoked meat and vinegar based BBQ sauces they always give free soft serve ice cream with every meal. Great value but now I think Imma gonna 'splode...

Tip #8. Act like 12 year-olds! Buy a bunch of ice cream and toppings and make each other HUGE ice cream sundaes. Then make a blanket fort, bring your laptop inside and watch a movie on Netflix while devouring your sundaes. Then... devour each other...
