What It Means When You See A Blue Pumpkin This Halloween
I saw this pumpkin this morning while taking my kid to school and I couldn't remember what the significance of a blue pumpkin was. I was thinking it was police support, but nope...that's blue porch lights. I looked it up when I got home and learned that they are all about Food Allergies. I know I heard about this last year, but apparently my brain doesn't hang on to one-day-a-year stuff very well.
If you're a kid with severe food allergies, you don't get to do the whole trick-or-treat thing as someone will likely drop something potentially fatal to you in your bag. In order to help those kids experience the joy of taking things from strangers in random houses, some households are handing out allergy free treats. Typically small toys or trinkets...the kind of things you might get at a kid's birthday party. I don't think I saw any of these last year, but if you're participating, feel free to comment on the Cat's Facebook page so people can find you.
