A police standoff with a possibly armed suspect has closed South 28th Street between Second and Fourth avenues South to the public.

Billings police officers with assault rifles are on the scene with a suspect.

The officers are aiming rifles at a house at 302 S. 28th St., and the Sheriff Police Rescue van has arrived on the scene.

The suspect, a 48-year-old man has barricaded himself in the home of his mother, Mary Chavez, and officers believe he may be armed.

The suspect is wanted on parole violations. Police had some visuals and phone contact.

Lt. Kevin Iffland said, "The man keeps saying he will come up peacefully, but has neglected to do so."

Officers could be seen hiding behind vehicles and appeared to be talking with a person on the phone shortly after 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The suspect's brother, Benjamin Slevira, said he is worried about his brother. Slevira had spoken to his brother on the phone and said he "seems tired and confused."
