Free Shakespeare in the Park Returns to Billings: July 8-9

A professional, eleven-actor theater troupe on a grueling twelve-week tour across five states is making a multi-night stop right here in our backyard this week.

There are no ticket lines, no hidden fees, and absolutely no dress codes required to catch world-class live drama in town. A much-loved regional powerhouse is bringing two massive storytelling experiences to our local park, and the entire community is invited to pull up a patch of grass and dive into the action.

Free Shakespeare Performances at Pioneer Park in Billings

The acclaimed Montana Shakespeare in the Parks crew is returning to Billings for its fifty-fourth season of delivering professional, completely free theater to the public. This summer, the dedicated cast is touring 64 communities across the West. Our local stop is at Pioneer Park, 390 North 23rd Street, where the stage will come alive each night at 6:30 p.m. All ages are invited to bring lawn chairs, gather the family, arrive early, and enjoy these back-to-back outdoor performances.

The Merchant of Venice Plays in Billings on July 8th

The troupe will challenge our minds first on Wednesday, July 8th, at 6:30 p.m. with a powerful performance of The Merchant of Venice. This legendary drama pulls the audience into a high-stakes world of romance, prejudice, and a tense courtroom showdown. The story weaves together a dangerous financial bond, a high-stakes quest for marriage, and a young woman risking everything to escape her father's house and find freedom. Director Kevin Asselin highlights that the play explores deeply human questions about justice and the transformative power of mercy, forcing us to look closely at the true cost of excluding others in a fractured world.

Much Ado About Nothing Hits the Billings Stage on July 9th

If you are looking for laughter, music, and a vibrant escape, clear your evening schedule on Thursday, July 9th, at 6:30 p.m. The company will pivot to present Much Ado About Nothing, a lively comedy that dives straight into the beautiful chaos of love, clever schemes, and shifting reputations. Set in the aftermath of conflict, the story follows returning soldiers and their hosts as they become entangled in misunderstandings and courtship. Director Johamy Morales notes that the production insists on communal celebration and ends in dance rather than division, offering a timely reminder of collective resilience.
