This past Sunday the owner of the Spa Hot Springs Motel was shot an killed at his place of business in White Sulphur Springs here in Montana. Gene Gudmundson visited the area back in the 1980s and decided he wanted to call it home, so he bought the Motel and set up shop according to KTVH television.
It seems that Gudmundson was a local favorite in the town with a population of around 1000 people. Which makes the case all the more shocking.
Did the shooter know the victim before hand?
The suspect is Kyle Ann Morrow who has admitted to shooting Gudmundson after walking into the Motel office and opening fire. However, the suspect, who is 73, is an author who has written romance novels that deal with homicide according to the Bozeman Daily News. It's also been reported that Morrow was at one time and employee of the Motel and knew Gudmundson.
When the suspect was identified, attempts were made to lure her outside of her home, but she resisted. She eventually let on her own and at that time she was stopped by Montana State Patrol. Reports state that not only did Morrow admit to killing Gudmundson, but that there were multiple suicidal and final arrangement letters in her home.

Here's another layer to the story, not only is Morrow a former employee, but the Motel also sold her books in their lobby and the wife of the victim was a fan of Morrow's writing.
