The announcement states that residents should expect to see smoke rising from the northwest corner of the airport from 9 am to noon. This smoke is a result of a training class being conducted by the Billings Fire Training Division.

The Billings Fire Training Division conducts such training exercises periodically, and the last one was reported by the Billings Gazette in September 2022. While the sight of smoke rising from the airport may cause some concern among residents, the announcement assures that it is part of the training exercise and not a cause for alarm.

Here are the details from Victoria Hill, Public Information Officer for the City of Billings:

Hello,
Just a heads up - smoke will be visible from the northwest corner of the Billings airport on Friday (2/17) from about 9 a.m. to noon.
It’s part of a class being put on by the Billings Fire Training Division.
Thank you,
Victoria
As of now, no further information has been released by the City of Billings regarding the training exercise. However, residents can rest assured that the city is taking all necessary precautions to ensure that the training exercise is conducted safely and efficiently.
