We Asked AI to Roast Billings. The Results are… Interesting
With more and more content on the internet being generated by artificial intelligence, you can rest assured that the stories we write are created by real humans who live, work, and play in Montana. Until the internet overlord becomes too powerful and takes all of our jobs, you'll continue to get articles from humans.
EXCEPTION: Today we asked AI to roast Billings, Montana.
If you've never played with Chat GPT or similar AI tools, they can be quite useful and fun, but not always entirely accurate. One time, I asked AI for five fun facts about Billings and nearly all of them were completely wrong. Not just a little wrong, but 4 out of 5 of the AI "facts" were so outrageously incorrect that all I could do was laugh.
Here's how AI roasted Billings.
We entered this simple, three-word prompt: "Roast Billings, MT" and here's what we got. Our comments are in parentheses.
Billings, Montana: where the skyline is dominated by an oil refinery, and the nightlife peaks at Walmart after 10 p.m. Known as the "Magic City" because it appeared out of nowhere and hasn’t disappeared yet, Billings is where you go if you want to experience a "bustling metropolis" with all the charm of a truck stop.
(Ouch! Fairly accurate, although the Billings Walmarts close at 11 pm, and there is more than one refinery.)
The city is basically a huge parking lot sprinkled with strip malls and an inexplicable number of casinos, where hopes and dreams go to die along with your last $20. People say the Yellowstone River runs through Billings, but honestly, it looks like it's trying to escape.
(Solid burn!)
The downtown area? It's got all the excitement of watching paint dry. And let’s not forget the wind. Billings doesn't have weather; it has endurance tests. If the dust doesn't get you, the sideways snow in April will.
(Accurate on the weather snub.)
At least Billings is affordable… if you enjoy living in an economy that's built on tumbleweeds and industrial fumes.
AI is far from perfect, but it did a good job of roasting the Magic City. We love Billings as much as any other local, but you have to see the humor in AI's take on our beloved hometown.
