Brooks & Dunn's guest appearance during Kacey Musgraves multi-night Ryman Auditorium residency last month was a highlight, but the duo couldn't help but laugh as they recalled the "Follow Your Arrow" star trying to choreograph their stage movements.

The duo of Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn surprised a sold-out audience during Musgraves' third consecutive show at the historic Nashville venue on March 1, during her Oh, What a World Tour. They were there to sing one of their signature hits, "Neon Moon," with her, and prior to the show, they say Musgraves tried to instruct them on where to stand when they made their grand appearance in front of the crowd, not realizing they have a more nonchalant approach to their stage presentation.

"We ran in to do soundcheck, and [it] was funny to watch Kacey try to choreograph everybody," Dunn tells Taste of Country Nights in a new interview. "She said, 'Now make sure you're here at this mark when I say neon moon — the light's gonna hit you.'"

"I go, 'Ok,'" Dunn recalls.

"She was directing traffic — she doesn't know we've never hit any mark in our entire career," Brooks chimes in, laughing as he thinks about the moment. "We frustrated Reba for years trying to tour."

Despite Dunn joking that Brooks & Dunn haven't "had a rehearsal in 15 years," they nailed their guest spot, with the spotlight hitting them just as Musgraves sang the words "neon moon."

"It was cool, though, doing it with her," he admits.

Musgraves had been covering "Neon Moon" in her live set for roughly a year before she shared the stage with the iconic country duo at the Ryman. Fans can hear an official recording of a duet between Brooks & Dunn and Musgraves on the duo's new Reboot album — a compilation of modern artists singing their songs with them, out Friday (April 5).
