Lionel Richie’s ‘Tuskegee’ Album Reaches Platinum Status
Since details of Lionel Richie‘s collaborative country album, ‘Tuskegee,’ started surfacing, we’ve been following all of the happenings. And the happenings have been many. Since its release on March 26, the album has topped the Billboard Country Albums chart and landed at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart. And just this week, Richie earned a certified platinum disc to signify that the critically-acclaimed collection has sold a million copies.
For those of you who are out of the loop, ‘Tuskegee’ is Richie’s first chart-topping album since he released ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ in 1986. The album consists of 13 of Richie’s top hits as sung with 13 of country music’s top stars.
“This album continues to amaze me and I am so grateful for all that it has accomplished,” says the singer (quote courtesy of the Boot). “Just when I think it couldn’t get any bigger, ‘Tuskegee’ reaches a new level of success. When I came up with the idea for ‘Tuskegee’, I didn’t want to be confined by boundaries of age, genre or demographics. I am thrilled with how well this album has been received by people from all walks of life. It is truly living up to the vision we had when we created it.”
Of course, Richie knows that he couldn’t have reached this level of success without the country celebs who backed him up. He has continued to give props to the talented country artists who contributed to the hit album, including Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Jennifer Nettles, Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Jimmy Buffett and more.
‘Tuskegee’ has spent four weeks at the top spot on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, and it spent three weeks on top of the Billboard all-genre 200. Richie joins Ray Charles as the second musician in history to have No. 1 albums on both the Billboard Country Albums and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.
Congratulations to Lionel Richie and all of the country crooners that helped him make history!
