School lunch

One of my neighbors who was at Joliet school back when we did our lunchroom visits is now a mom of three and my neighbor.

Sodexo in Billings is part of an initiative to serve more locally sourced foods in Montana schools. They are now sourcing Montana grown Empire apples grown in Corvallis, and school chefs are creating school lunch menu items that will feature the Montana apples.

In 30 years of doing our show, a lot of things have changed. But, one thing has always remained constant: reading the menus from the schools on the air. Back in the early 90's Paul and I did "School Lunch Visits" to every school in the outlying areas.

I'm not trying to cover the political side of everything that's happened to what’s on our children’s plates for hot lunch. I'm just glad it's going to have more local control. Wait. I guess it WILL be politically flavored. The rules being relaxed were implemented by former first lady Michelle Obama in what was entitled "Health, Hunger Free Kids Act" ...
