Are People Really Laughing Out Loud When They Put LOL On A Text?

I have to admit I do it too but I started to wonder if people who post lol in a text or on Facebook are really laughing out loud. I've enclosed a pic of a recent text conversation between a friend and I regarding my payment to him for being the runner-up in our flag football league. Do you really think he was laughing out loud when he sent this to me? Can you imagine what an annoying world this would be if every time someone texted "lol" they were really laughing out loud? In the supermarket, at work, in a movie theater, at the grocery store and in a hotel lobby?
