A nationwide product safety alert is hitting close to home for families who shop at the Target on Central Ave or on Main Street in the Heights. If you have a pouch or box of Up & Up store-brand baby wipes in your nursery right now, the FDA is warning that the product you rely on to clean your child may be contaminated with bacteria that can make infants seriously ill.

This is an active product recall. If you bought Up & Up baby wipes in the past several months, check your manufacturing codes before the next diaper change.

The Bacteria Found in These Wipes

Target pulled these wipes after FDA testing detected two types of bacteria in product samples: Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli. In a healthy adult, exposure might cause some skin irritation and nothing more. For a baby, it's a different story entirely.

Infants have immune systems that are still figuring themselves out, which means these bacteria can move from skin into the bloodstream and trigger infections, including sepsis and pneumonia. The recall came after parents across the country started noticing their wipes looked discolored and reported rashes, eye irritation, and infections in their kids.

The Exact Products Being Recalled

The recall covers two Up & Up varieties sold at Target stores and on Target.com. Flip your package over and check the manufacturing code and expiration date stamped on the back.

For Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes, the affected sizes are 20, 72, and 100 count pouches, 216 count bundles, and 800 and 1,200 count boxes. The manufacturing codes run from 071125X/XX (November 7, 2025) through 050526X/XXX (May 5, 2026), with expiration dates from 100528 (May 10, 2028) through 051128 (November 5, 2028).

For Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes, the affected sizes are 72 count pouches, 216 count bundles, and 800 count boxes. Manufacturing codes run from 291225X/XX (December 29, 2025) through 301225X/XX (December 30, 2025), with expiration dates from 290628 (June 29, 2028) through 300628 (June 30, 2028).

If your package falls within any of those ranges, put it down and don't use it again.
