Kelsea Ballerini Reveals How She Got Over CMA Awards Loss
Kelsea Ballerini is one of country music's brightest newcomers not just for her upbeat tunes, but also her sense of fashion, and she decided to splurge big after missing out on a major award.
A fan of famous designer Christian Louboutin, Ballerini reveals that she was eager to buy a pair of his expensive shoes. "I've always wanted a pair of [Christian] Louboutin [stilettos]. I grew up seeing them in movies," the country star tells GQ. "I told myself if 'Peter Pan' went No. 1 I was going to get them. And then I was in New York and I put them on my feet and they were very expensive and I didn't get them."
Though she missed out on the opportunity the first time around, Ballerini was determined to find another chance to make the lavish purchase, which she did when she was nominated for one of the most coveted awards, New Artist of the Year, at the 2016 CMA Awards. "I said 'OK, Kelsea. If you win CMA Best New Artist you're getting these shoes.' I lost. The next day I went and got them," Ballerini continues. "I felt bad for myself so I went and bought Louboutins! It was out of sadness."
The "Yeah Boy" singer was also nominated for the same award at the 2017 Grammy Awards, where she took the stage to sing a duet with pop singer Lukas Graham, performing their hits "Peter Pan" and "7 Years," respectively. Ballerini is in the process of creating her sophomore album, which will showcase the singer's sense of maturity and growth since her 2015 album, The First Time.
