The Great American Smokeout is going on today (11/21), and some local coffee shops are helping to "stamp out" tobacco use.

MoAV Coffee, Ebon Coffee Collective, The Annex Coffee House and Bakery, and Rocky Mountain College and MSU Billings food service coffee shops will be stamping the 1-800-QUIT-NOW message on cups and hot drink sleeves through Thursday.

The Riverstone Health Tobacco Prevention Program came up with the idea to stamp Montana's Quit Line on the cups after seeing something similar online. This event is held on the third Thursday each November, encouraging those who smoke to take the first step in quitting.

According to a press release from Riverstone Health, 1600 people die in Montana every year from smoking related causes, with $440 Million in heathcare costs related to smoking illnesses.

For the past 40 years, the Great American Smokeout has provided the opportunity for community groups, physicians, and others to encourage people to make a plan to give up using commercial tobacco. It challenges people to stop smoking and helps people learn about the many tools they can use to successfully end their tobacco addiction and enjoy a healthier life.
