Oreo Cookies Celebrate 100 Years!
The Oreo has reached a major milestone! It was 100 years ago today that the first Oreo cookies were sold!
Oreos have slightly changed over time, with the “Double Stuf” cookies being added in 1974 with even more cream filling. The cookie has expanded to other various flavors including fudge, peanut butter, vanilla and mint.
These top selling cookies in the United States can be found in over 100 countries worldwide.
Pastry Chef Joanne Chang from The Flour Bakery in Boston suggests that the appeal of the Oreo is in the way that you eat it. "There are so many options including dunking it in milk or twisting it to scrape off the filling," she says.
According to Kraft Foods, 50% of Oreo eaters pull apart their cookies before eating, and women twist them open more often than men.
