The Super Bowl commercial blitz is upon us almost a week before the big game between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. With Elton John’s commercial already generating some chatter, country artists are also getting in on the Super Bowl spot fun. Sugarland‘s Jennifer Nettles recorded a classic song for a memorable and super funny Pepsi Max commercial. The 30-second commercial will air during the game, but the long-form version is already viewable online.

In the commercial, dubbed ‘Check-Out,’ the Cola Wars between Pepsi and its rival Coke take center stage.

A Coke Zero delivery man, wearing a jacket and a cap emblazoned with the Coke Zero logo, is shopping — and once he stumbles upon a refrigerated case, he stares down bottles of Coke Zero and Pepsi Max. While he makes the choice between the two, Nettles’ twangy rendition of the Hank Williams song ‘Your Cheatin’ Heart’ plays in the background.

The Coke Zero employee cashes his checks from the Coca Cola corporation, but he is cheating and getting a little something something on the side with Pepsi, so the song is a perfect fit for the action unfolding onscreen. The driver is then embarrassed when he discovers upon checking out at the register that he is the grand prize winner of the ‘Pepsi Max for Life’ contest, and thus caught drinking the competition’s soft drinks in a public forum. Ouch. That’s gotta hurt … the wallet! We doubt his Coke employers would be happy at his choice of beverage.

Regis Philbin also stars in the commercial as a reporter who asks the driver how he feels about winning the soda sweepstakes.
