Hey guys, are you over 50?  Have you gotten your colonoscopy yet?

I ask because, I was having the weirdest conversation yesterday with a coworker (yes, a guy) and he was freaked out about seeing the doctor.

Here is the funny part, I had to explain the difference between a prostate check and a colonoscopy.

I will not go into detail on how I explained it to him or the verbiage I used.

But I did some fact finding and here is what I found; Men carry a higher risk of colon cancer than women and therefore should get their first colonoscopy to screen for the disease at age 45, five years earlier than the current recommendation.

According the American Cancer Society, more than 141,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer this year.

The ACS also says that 50,000 will die from the disease.

The number of men who get colon cancer and die from the disease are about 35 percent to 40 percent higher than women.

Word of advice guys (and gals) get checked.  I got checked last year at the age of 49, why because cancer runs in my family.

Get checked...
