Billings Police SWAT Responds to Standoff With Violent Offender
There was a heavy law enforcement presence for several hours in a Billings neighborhood near Terry Park on Wednesday afternoon (4/13).
According to an alert from Billings Police Sgt Brandon Wooley on the @BillingsPD Twitter page posted just before 7 pm MDT on Wednesday, there were ongoing "active law enforcement operations" happening around 6th Street West and Broadwater where a suspect had reportedly barricaded themself.
Later in the evening, a follow-up post from Billings Police Sgt. Reid provided more details about the incident on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the report, Billings Police officers responded to the residence at 613 6th Street West around 3:45 pm MDT where a PFMA (Partner or Family Member Assault) had allegedly taken place.
When officers arrived, the suspect who is known to be a violent offender, barricaded himself inside the home. After more than an hour of discussions with BPD hostage negotiation teams, the suspect remained inside the residence.
According to the post, the Billings Police SWAT team began to enter to home when the suspect surrendered.
The standoff was "resolved successfully" with the suspect in custody, and there were no injuries in the incident, according to the Billings Police.
No further details were available about the identity of the suspect at the time this article was posted.
