C.W. McCall
"It was the dark of the moon on the 6th of June", as the song says. That was the first song we played this morning at 5 a.m.
And I thought I'd do a little blog on him.
He started out as a TV advertising guy who did a campaign for the Old Home Bread Company. That quickly turned in "The Old Home Filler Up And Keep On A Truckin’ Cafe". Then "Convoy" hit the charts and sold two million copies during the height of the C.B. craze in America.
"Convoy" (the movie) was based on the song and starred Kris Kristofferson. And for youngsters, Convoy was even used in the video game "Grand Theft Auto V".
He would serve as mayor of Ouray, Colorado. And he has voiced commercials for highway safety in the state.
I got to visit with him about 5 years ago and was one of the nicest folks that I've ever got to interview.
