“Certified Humane” Natural Meat Commercials Are Unintentionally Funny
This morning as I was working out I saw a commercial for "Certified Humane" natural meats... the kind you might buy at Good Earth Market downtown or at Natural Grocers on 24th Street. The ads promote the humane treatment of farm animals and how animals who are treated humanely are healthier for us to eat. They stress no cages, no crates, no tie stalls and that the animals must be free to do what comes naturally. For example, chickens are able to flap their wings and dust bathe, and pigs have the space to move around and root.
These are all noble motives but their ad is unintentionally hilarious. Watch the video and at about 17 seconds you'll hear the announcer talk about how purchasing natural foods promotes farm animal well-being... right as the camera cuts to a scene where there are meatballs frying in a pan. Hysterical!
