Bridge Out, But Here’s How to Reach Woodbine Falls in Montana
***Updated note from Aaron: We want to stress that folks should extreme caution when attempting to cross waterways like this. While the water below Woodbine is very low now in late July, other waterways are not and present extreme danger. Also, our digital editor Jaci tells us that there is another location to cross that has multiple logs and brush and is much safer farther down the stream. (Also- it's been two years, why haven't these bridges been replaced yet?)
The bridge is still out, but if you want to make it up to the scenic overlook of Woodbine Falls near Nye, Montana- you can do it, but you gotta be careful.
That's my wife Jessica in the photo above after we both walked or climbed across the log stretching over the creek so we could continue on up the trail to get a closer look at Woodbine Falls.
Remember those historic floods back in 2022? Campers were stranded at the Woodbine Falls Campground, and rescued thanks to the great efforts of search and rescue workers. Well, the road and the campground at Woodbine is open, but if you want to make the hike up to the overlook, you're gonna have to climb a log over the creek to make it up there.
A note of caution: if you're not the adventurous type, or if you're not good on your feet- then heed the advice of TLC and "don't go chasing waterfalls" for this trip just yet.
According to the Custer Gallatin National Forest: "Woodbine Falls Trail (# 9) is 0.8 mile long. Trail begins at Woodbine Campground and climbs steadily to beautiful Woodbine Falls. The trail is open for the following uses: hiking."
How do you get to Woodbine Falls?
