There is something especially meaningful about watching a community show up for someone who has spent part of their life serving others.

On Tuesday, September 22, Billings U.S. Army veteran Skipp Milligan will receive a brand new roof at no cost to him. It is a huge gift, one that will protect his home and take a major expense off his shoulders. And it is happening because several organizations and a local roofing company chose to say thank you in a very real way.

Billings Army Veteran Selected for Free Roof Replacement

Milligan was selected through the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, a nationwide initiative created to honor military members, veterans, and their families with new roofs.

His roof will be installed by Donahue Roofing & Siding, an Owens Corning Platinum Roofing Contractor in Billings. The company is donating the labor, while the Owens Corning Foundation is donating the roofing materials. That means Milligan will not have to pay for the materials or the installation.

Purple Heart Homes helped select and approve Milligan for the roof replacement.

Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project Gives Back to Veterans

The Roof Deployment Project began in 2016 as a way for Owens Corning and its network of Platinum Preferred Contractors to give back to military families in a practical, lasting way.

A roof is not a small thing. It is security. It is protection from Montana snow, wind, rain, and everything else our weather can bring. It is one less overwhelming home repair to worry about.

Since the program began, more than 850 military members have received new roofs through the effort. Owens Corning provides the materials, while independent Platinum Preferred Contractors donate their time and skill to complete the installation.

Donahue Roofing & Siding Brings the Project to Billings

Donahue Roofing & Siding could have treated Tuesday like any other workday. Instead, its team is giving its labor to make sure a local veteran has a safe, dependable new roof over his head. It is a generous gesture, but it is also a reminder that gratitude does not always have to come in words.

Sometimes, it looks like a crew showing up early, working hard, and giving a neighbor the peace of mind that comes with knowing their home is protected.
