Game On: ‘Duck Duck Goose’ is Ready to Adopt in Billings
Our featured Wet Nose Wednesday pet this week from Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter is a sweet older girl with a silly name; they're calling her Duck, Duck, Goose. Since the shelter is tasked with naming thousands of stray pets each year, there's bound to be some rather interesting names assigned to these dogs.
You're welcome to change her name, but more importantly, this seven-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/Husky mix is ready to enjoy a loving forever home.
Duck, Duck, Goose arrived at YVAS as a stray.
She was found a little over a week ago in rural Yellowstone County, covered in ticks with a badly matted coat. The shelter's care team took care of both issues, and she's been fixed, microchipped, and is ready to be adopted today.
Older dogs make great pets.
Everyone loves puppies, but let's be honest... they're a lot of work. Adopting a mature dog has several benefits. They're already house-trained. They probably won't chew up your shoes or furniture, and they're generally much calmer and well-behaved.

Duck, Duck, Go seemed a little bit on the shy side, particularly towards men. Lindsay Dillon, Volunteer Coordinator at YVAS, said she loved riding in the car, and she does ok on a leash.
This gentle gal is ready for a loving home to spend the next several years, and would make a great family pet. Plus, you can adopt her for just $6!
Don't miss the dog adoption special this month at YVAS.
Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter is currently overflowing with adoptable dogs. When this occurs, they'll occasionally run adoption specials, and now is one of those times. Through June, you can adopt any adult dog (1 year old or older) for just $6. Browse the current inventory HERE.
Thank you, Shipton's Big R, for supporting animal adoption in the Billings area.
A personal note.
Last week, I fell in love with our Wet Nose Wednesday dog named Dandelion. I wrote,
As I type, there is a voice whispering in my head, "Michael, you need to adopt this dog."
I told my wife and kids about her that night. On Thursday evening, we stopped by the shelter so they could meet her too. We were disappointed that she wasn't in any of the kennels on the adoption floor.
"Someone must have adopted her," we assumed. On the way out, I asked a YVAS staffer if Dandelion got adopted. They said, "No, she's still here." Since they are so full of dogs, Dandelion was tucked into a back room. We were thrilled!
Dandelion has quickly adapted to her new name, Jade.
We had to be out of town the following morning, but we raced back to the shelter later on Friday afternoon and were overjoyed that she was still there! And now, she is part of our family.
She acclimated to our household and other dogs almost immediately. She's very pretty, extremely well-behaved, incredibly sweet, and is honestly one of the best dogs I think we've ever had.
If you're on the fence about adopting a shelter dog, don't be. It might turn into a perfect match, just like our Jade.
