Rumors are circulating that a former gas station in downtown Billings could be revived. The property at 702 S. 27th Street was most recently a 3G’s convenience store. It closed some time ago and has become a bit of an eyesore in an already not-so-attractive part of Billings.

Public tax records indicate the vacant gas station lot changed hands in 2024 and is now owned by an entity called Indian Brothers, LLC. A little digging revealed that the Great Falls PO box associated with the entity matches the address for Singh Inc., which owns several Conoco stores in Great Falls.

While this is not concrete proof that the former 3G's on S 27th Street will once again be a convenience store, it seems plausible that this is the case.

Disappearing gas stations in downtown Billings.

While Town Pump continues to build new convenience stores across the city and state, places to top off your tank have been thinning in downtown Billings. The Conoco at 6th and N 27th closed and was demolished last year. Now, the Holiday store across the street is closing on June 6.

It will reopen as a new Circle K, according to a paywalled Billings Gazette article. The new store will include “landscaping, picnic tables, diesel pumps, and a carwash” and is set to reopen in November.

This will leave just two convenience stores on the 27th Street corridor... the Conomart Superstore at the corner of S 27th St and State Ave, and the Cenex Zip Trip by the hospitals.

As someone who works downtown, I’ll be happy to see another nearby option for gas station snacks, fuel, and a convenient place to grab a six-pack of beer on my way home.

Having a convenience store again in this location will be an asset for neighbors, not to mention the curb appeal on a busy stretch of road into and out of the Magic City.  Anything is better than an abandoned building.
