When A Radio DJ Is Told To Demo A Studio, This Happens
Last month here at Townsquare Billings, we started a project to trim down and streamline our operations. Or, in non-business speak... we had a bunch of junk all over this place and finally had enough.
A Radio DJ + Power Tools = Success
Once we had finished getting all the junk out of our tower (which involved MULTIPLE dump and storage unit trips), we also migrated to one SIDE of the Townsquare Tower. Now, we have all the same views... except we aren't using the Eastern side of the 23rd floor.
But, one big project remained. We lost our Conference Room in this process, which for radio, is quite important. Mainly for sales-related things.
One other big sad thing... we lost our mural. We had a local artist come up and spend a lot of time painting that... as before it was just a wallpapered wall, with the Townsquare logo on it (boring).
So, we set our sights on the only place big enough, that we have left, for a conference room. A former studio, on our Western side, nicely placed between the NewsTalk 970 & 103.3 Production Studio, and 103.7 The Hawk's studio.
Gimme an H... For Hammer! Gimme a D... For Drill!
Now, thanks to my infinite wisdom, I didn't get a "before" photo of this studio. But, this photo is close enough.
This was just after we removed the board from the studio desk, and took out a chunk of the desk (see the rectangle cutout in the carpet...). Getting there! But, as it turns out, tearing down a studio from who knows how many years ago... comes with a few challenges. Mainly, the dust. Oh lord... the dust!
Up next, once I removed the top-mounted equipment boxes, our ol' pal Michael Foth from Mix 97.1 brought his power tools (I am not allowed to use sharp power tools...) to saw the top of the unit in half. As it is one BIG piece normally, we didn't wanna fuss with getting it down the elevators... so two pieces it is!
(Warning: Michael says sh** at the end, thanks to the dust cloud. Sorry. Blame Michael)
That face he makes at the end is priceless. But, once we let the room clear out the dusty air, all it took was a few hammer swings... and a swift KICK.
All that was left was to disassemble the desk into as many pieces as possible, which, was easy enough. After a few more hours of disassembly, we were left with this in our hallway...
Well... what does the new conference room look like?
Uh, about that. I'm great at DESTRUCTION. Not CONSTRUCTION. So, we're letting the professionals handle that part. But, here's what it looks like now, ready for new carpet... and some adjustments.
Not too shabby if you ask me! We've obviously got plans to get new carpet soon, and the carpeted walls MIGHT change...
The window is one thing that DOES need to be fixed and is on the list. Can't have you coming to visit the Townsquare Tower for important business... and you are staring at this.
Anyhow, once we've got it all figured out, we'll give you another behind-the-scenes look at radio! Stay tuned...
