First-Annual Willie Nelson Celebrity Golf Outing Will Benefit Texas Charities
With his signature pigtail braids and hippie-inspired song lyrics, Willie Nelson doesn’t exactly seem like a golf guy. But once again, the legendary country icon surprised us by launching the first-annual Willie Nelson Celebrity Golf Tournament in Briarcliff, Texas, which will benefit the Pedernales Fire Department, the Helping Hands Crisis Ministry, the Children’s Music Foundation and the RunTex Foundation.
Nelson actually owns the central Texas golf course where the event will be held on Saturday, June 30. And luckily, there will be plenty of golfing events taking place to please all styles of golfers.
The event will kick off at 10AM with a round of speed golf. Following that, two different shotgun Willie 9-hole scramble rounds will tee off at 12:30PM and then 3PM. At most golf scrambles, teams are made up of four players, but of course Willie Nelson doesn’t like to follow tradition. At the Willie Nelson Golf Outing, scramble teams will be made up of six members. Texas Roadhouse will sponsor a dinner for all participants from 5:3o to 7PM.
Tickets to the event cost a pretty penny, though, at $250 per golfer for a 9-hole scramble, $200 per golfer for a speed golf round, and $100 for non-golfers — but it’s for a good cause.
Even if you don’t like spending time on the putting green, there will be all sorts of fun things for you. BMI Songwriter of the Year by Sonny Throckmorton and other special guests will provide music, and a silent auction of Willie memorabilia will start at 11:30AM and run all day. The event will end with a round of Night Life Golf, where benefactors will shoot glow in the dark balls for a chance to win other gifts.
