Someone in Billings Needs This Chica in Their Life
Each week, we feature a different ready-to-adopt pet from Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter. Little dogs, big dogs, cats, and puppies come into our studio, and we chat them up a little bit on the radio.
Today's featured dog is a nine-year-old Belgian Malinois mix named Chica, and this mature girl is a charmer. Due to life circumstances with her former human(s), she's now ready to spread her joy with a new loving home in the Billings area.

You can adopt Chica at no cost.
Chica was surrendered about two weeks ago, and because she's becoming a bit of a "long hauler" at the shelter, she has been sponsored. Which means... her adoption fee has been paid for, thanks to donors, grants, and other incentives. Whoever adopts Chica will save $160.
Izzy Zalenski, Community Engagement Coordinator at YVAS, said Chica gets along well with other dogs, as long as they're respectful of her boundaries, as well as kids. Cats and pocket pets might be a little iffy.

Chica is medium-sized and appears fit, with pretty markings and a big smile. She weighs roughly 60 pounds. She thinks she's a lapdog and is very friendly. During our meetup today, she leaned into my legs and kept nudging me for more affection.
Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter is having an open house.
After a tumultuous 2025, Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter is settling into its new, semi-permanent location on Jellison Road (on the way to the Billings Landfill). To celebrate this, they're having an open house!
Come join the fun on Saturday, March 7. YVAS will have free microchipping from 12 - 5, no appointment necessary, and the open house is from Noon to 3 PM, with free stickers, shirts, and tours of the facility.
