Shepherd Man Killed After Shooting In Downtown Billings
According to the Billings Police Department Twitter account, two Billings Police officers were investigating a "suspicious call" when they engaged in a foot chase near the 2200 block of 1st Avenue North. Gunfire was exchanged that resulted in the death of a 28-year old Shepherd man who died on the scene.
Reed Mullins, an employee at nearby store Discontent, saw officers running down 1st Avenue North with their guns drawn shortly before hearing rumors of someone shot in a nearby alley. An article published by the Billings Gazette last year reported that among cities of similar size, Billings has one of the highest rates of fatal police shootings.
BPD Chief Rich St. John confirmed no officers were hurt during the incident that was reported just before 2pm on Sunday afternoon. The department also said on Twitter that investigators are expected to be on-scene late into Sunday evening with more details to be announced in an upcoming press conference.
