A car show and an airplane fly-in at the same place? Count us in.

I love airplanes and cool cars, and if you or your kids do too, Wings & Wheels is the place to be on Saturday, September 13th at the Laurel, MT airport. The second annual event is free to the public and promises a fun mix of vehicles from land and air.

Gates open at 8 AM and the event runs throughout the afternoon, with food trucks, static displays, and an awesome blend of aircraft and automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, and more from various car clubs and pilots.

Kids can get up close to aircraft.

When I was a kid, I couldn't wait to take my first airplane ride, and when a pilot at our church offered to take the youth group kids on an airplane ride, I was thrilled. Our flight was only a few minutes, but the experience was unforgettable. Someday, when I get the time and money, I think it would be so fun to get a pilot's license.

Event organizer John Roberts said they're working on a free kids flight day to be held at a future date. In the meantime, if you've got a youngster interested in aviation (or perhaps you are too?), come ask questions and meet the pilots.

Last year, nearly 100 airplanes participated in the Fly-In. Roberts said they're welcoming more vehicles this year, so reach out if you'd like to bring your little Deuce Coupe, rat rod, muscle car, etc, to the event.

Side note: The Laurel Airport is basically across the road from Yellowstone National Cemetery. If you're in town for Wings and Wheels, in memory of 9/11, feel free to stop and pay your respects to our servicemen and women at this somber resting place.
