Gorgeous Montana Trail Named 10th Best in the United States
Montana is no stranger to stunning scenery, but one of our state’s most beloved hikes just got some serious national recognition. The Avalanche Lake Trail in Glacier National Park has been ranked the 10th best hiking trail in the United States, according to a report from Edge Fall Protection, LLC.
If you've ever had the chance to lace up your boots and hit this trail, the ranking probably doesn’t surprise you. This 5.9-mile round-trip hike is a fan favorite for a reason. It starts with a gentle stroll through the Trail of the Cedars (wheelchair accessible for the first 1/2 mile), a shaded path lined with towering trees and the soothing sounds of rushing water. But once you reach Avalanche Gorge, the real magic begins.

Glacier National Park is packed with epic trails, but Avalanche Lake continues to shine as a must-do for visitors. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just looking for a peaceful nature walk with a big payoff, this trail delivers.
Deciding what makes the "best" trail in Montana is a challenge, and with 15,000 miles of public trails in Montana, everyone's idea of best can be subjective. However, the Avalanche Lake Trail is certainly a top contender.
