Billings Senior High Sophomore With a Heart of Gold Named Weekly MVP
Every week, we like to shine the spotlight on a local student who’s going above and beyond in school, at home, and in the community. This week’s Most Valuable Pupil is a great reminder that leadership doesn’t always mean being the loudest person in the room; sometimes, it’s just quietly doing a lot of good for the people around you.
Meet Makenzy Tracy, a 16-year-old student at Billings Senior High School.
Mom says Makenzy is the kind of kid who naturally steps up when life gets busy, and with a household that includes seven kids, busy is pretty much the daily setting.
As the second-oldest sibling, Makenzy has taken on a big role at home, especially since her older sister left for college. That means helping care for younger siblings and welcoming the family’s foster kids over the years.
Last week's MVP: Meet Audrey Brammer: Skyview High School's Inspiring Senior Leader
An active participant at school.
At school, Makenzy stays busy with Speech and Debate and Key Club, and she’s also willing to share her talents by offering flute lessons and tutoring to students who need a little extra help.
When she’s not studying, competing, or helping classmates, you might find Makenzy doing something thoughtful for the neighbors, like baking cookies or fresh bread. She’s also been known to help younger students learn how to research and prepare for their own debate competitions.
Makenzy is working to save money for a school trip to London and Paris this summer. Not exactly a slow schedule. From helping raise younger siblings to mentoring classmates and staying active in school activities, this young woman is a true standout.
