Remember last year when the folks at School District 2 asked the city of Billings to approve a $122 million bond to build new facilities?  At the time, they projected significant growth in enrollment.  Turns out, enrollment is actually decreasing.

Due to a growing number of families moving to the outlying areas or enrolling their children in private schools, this year's enrollment is significantly lower than expected.  Of course, they were anticipating enrollment to reach its highest levels ever.  Instead, there are 50 fewer kindergarten students in District 2 this year.

Across grades K-8, enrollment is down by nearly 400 students, dropping to 111,189 students this year.  Now, instead of building new schools, they'll have to find another way to spend the taxpayer's money.  Expect to see a few shiny new soccer and softball fields.  And make sure to go out and enjoy them, because you're paying for them.
